Hello and welcome to the latest edition of our quarterly Newsletter, NewsByte. I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all our subscribers a Happy and prosperous New Year.
Over the course of the venture to date, we have helped create nine new enterprises, over 140 new jobs, more than 420 products and processes and induced over £3.7m of inward investment into Wales. We have provided training to over 2,000 individuals and helped to foster over 110 Academic-industry collaborations. In our fifth year now, we are experiencing exponential growth in demand for our services, as the high performance computing market within the SME space continues to grow.
We’ve recently announced the launch of a new competition in partnership with Bloodhound SSC, Technocamps, Zenotech and the Welsh Government which will entail pupils from schools in Wales modifying the parameters of the virtual Bloodhound Supersonic Car and racing it against each other. The project aims to inspire more students into careers within computer science and engineering.
I’m pleased to report that in January 2015 HPC Wales’ systems saw record levels of usage, with 5.19 million hours of computing time consumed, exceeding a previous high of 5.17 million in March 2014. Furthermore, the number of user accounts increased to over 2,350.
